Scientific Study Techniques Proven to Work

Here are four of the best, proven study techniques to elevate your learning and help you level up in your trading skills if applied consistently. Once you memorise and apply these skills, it will allow you to become a top student of the market in whatever strategies you choose.

Retrieval Practice:

Retrieving information you have already absorbed is one of the best methods to make material stick. Instead of re-reading the text, or re-watching the podcast, course material, test yourself on it. Attempt to remember and explain the concepts to yourself, (or to AI!)

The act of retrieving information strengthens your memories of it and this method had even more impact when the difficulty increases. This phenomenon is referred to as “desirable difficulty”.

Spaced Practice:

Don’t cram everything at once, in one day or one block. Spread your learning sessions out over time, this “spacing effect” leads to better long-term retention. The longer you want to remember something, the greater the spacing interval should be.

Interleaving:

Spending all your time on one topic might seem easier, but mixing up the topics you are learning has been shown to be highly effective in studies. Don’t focus intensively on just one topic at a time. Spread the learning across multiple topics.

Elaborative Interrogation:

As you study, ask yourself “how” and “why” questions to integrate this new knowledge into your existing understanding.

For example, student studying how a plane takes off in flight might ask themselves “How does a plane take off?”; “Why does a plane need an engine?”; “How does the upward force (lift) work?”
